Complaint over kone non-deal
We understand Ligue 1 club Lorient are meeting the French FA next week to make a complaint about Sunderland. Sources are telling us the club are unhappy with the way Sunderland handled a deal, that eventually fell through, to sign their central defender Lamine Kone.
We understand Sunderland had a bid accepted for the Ivory Coast defender last week, but they signed Jan Kirchhoff from Bayern Munich on Thursday. We're being told the player spent EIGHT days in Sunderland before the Premier League club decided to pull out of the deal by encouraging the player to go home.
Sources say Lorient are looking at all options, including taking legal action, because the player will miss three games as a result of his failed transfer, and they rejected offers from Premier League clubs who have now moved onto other targets, whilst they were in talks with Sunderland.
A Sunderland spokesperson said "we find talk of potential legal action to be ludicrous and would vigorously defend our position on this."
